Simple country life suits Hoad just fine

HIS HILARIOUS WEEKEND NATION column Lowdown has often left readers asking: “Who is this Richard Hoad?”

He craftily makes everyday incidents in and around his Morgan Lewis, St Andrew home fodder for his weekly column, in which members of his family have often found themselves the brunt of his jokes. 

The author, for whom his writings are just a light-hearted release from the day-to-day grind of life, says: “I am a very simple farmer.”

Hoad has been farming all his life, from the time he completed agricultural studies in Trinidad until today when, in his 70s, he complains that rearing and caring for scores of goats is becoming more and more of a grind.
