Rain stops Oval jam

THE CROWD WAS RESTLESS.

They were cold. They were frustrated. Doubts surfaced.

When will it start? Will it be cancelled or postponed? The clock was ticking and wasted time cannot be regained.

Off came the covers. Stumps were put in. Out came the vuvuzelas. Up went the flags. Down went the umbrellas and the atmosphere switched from the damp and desolate to amplified anticipation.

The crowd went wild when the blue and yellow and green and black uniforms took to the field for warm-ups at 10 p.m., but by this time the first Hero CPL T20 match in Barbados was two-and-a-half hours late. It eventually had to be cancelled at minutes after 11 p.m., when another downpour was too much for the players and the already waterlogged field. (NS)
