THERE WAS AN ARTICLE in the SUNDAY SUN headlined Lawyers: Change Dress Code.
Every day, all around the world people are calling for laws and rules to be changed to suit their needs and fancy without thinking things through, as well as the consequences and fallout.
Will the change in the lawyers’ and judges’ dress code improve the justice system? Will lawyers’ responses to client claims or legal advice and matters be dealt with swiftly?
My uncle has a case in court going 14 years and can’t get a date to go before the judge. Will a change in dress code help in this situation. The lawyers and judges need to set proper standards to deal with matters like my uncle’s.
If I came to court and saw a male or female lawyer or judge wearing the latest threads or garments, how would I be able to know who is who?
Why do you want to downgrade your status and profession? If your request became law, this would mean a reduction in your legal fees because you and your colleagues – both male and female – won’t have to buy any more expensive suits and shoes and so on to wear to court.
I will ask my fellow citizens when the dress code becomes law to also request that all legal fees be changed to suit the current economic times in Barbados.
Be careful what you wish for. The people in the UK last month voted for change and today they Regretix.
