Tridents leave home with a win

BRIDGETOWN – Talented Trinidadian left-handed batsman Nicholas Pooran hit a superb 81 off just 39 balls to set up an easy 25-run victory for the Tridents Pride of Barbados over the St Lucia Zouks in their Caribbean Premier League Twenty20 cricket match at Kensington Oval on Sunday night.

The 20-year-old Pooran showcased his wide range of attacking shot as he hit nine fours and four sixes in his knock to propel the Tridents to 173 for five after they were sent in.

In reply, the Zouks were restricted to 148 for eight, with opener Andre Fletcher getting the top score of 20. Pacers Ravi Rampaul and Wayne Parnell bowled impressively, taking two wickets each for 22 and 27 runs, respectively.

The victory was the Tridents’ third in six matches with one no-decision and carried them to third place in the standings on seven points behind leaders, Guyana Amazon Warriors (10) and Jamaica Tallawahs (9).

It was their final match at home. The Tridents will now head to Jamaica to play the Tallawahs on Wednesday at Sabina Park, and a rematch with the Zouks on Saturday at the Darren Sammy Stadium in Beausejour.
