A 23-YEAR-OLD woman is the winner of the Barbados 50 Monument Design Competition.

Taisha Carrington, who is going into her third year as an art student at Pratt University in New York, received her winning trophy and a cheque for $20 000 from Prime Minister Freundel Stuart at a ceremony at the Main Guard, The Garrison this morning.

A total of 48 entries were submitted for the competition, which got underway in February, and Carrington was one of five finalists chosen.

Carrington told reporters she wanted to leave a mark on the landscape of Barbados similarly to how Irving Burgie and Lester Vaughan did with the National Anthem and Pledge respectively.

The cost of erecting the monument has not yet been tallied, but it is expected to situated near the Parade Square at the Garrison. (YB)
