Board’s Regret

THE STATE AGENCY for protecting children conceded that Shemar Weekes’ case was not properly handled when alleged abuse was reported two years before his hanging.

The director of the Child Care Board (CCB), Joan Crawford, and Sherry-ann Blackman, the child care officer who handled the matter admitted that Shemar’s matter, fell through the cracks after it was revealed that the investigation stalled after three months in 2013. bloc-inquest

Crawford said the action of the CCB was inappropriate but stated the agency had more than 1 000 children cases reported annually. 

Crawford and Blackman were two major witnesses yesterday when the Shemar Weekes inquest continued before Coroner Manila Renee. Weekes was found hanging on the night of May 14, 2015. (AC)
