Fashion statement

KERRI FORDE knows how to make a statement.

This was why he decided to take clips from various NATION publications and stick them to a shirt.

“I made it from scratch. I cut out the articles that were based on issues plaguing the island – to paint an image of what’s happening in Barbados – and created the shirt. I used a glue gun and glue sticks as the adhesive for sticking the paper to the shirt,” he said.

Forde said the entire thing took about four hours to complete.

“I wanted to have the realistic feel of a physical paper plus I wanted to utilise the articles after the actual newspaper is printed. As a creative person, I just create and give it to the world,” he said.

However, there are obvious drawbacks to wearing a shirt covered in paper. Water, for example, can be a problem. Forde said he was aware of this and the shirt was a one-time statement.

“It’s not meant to be worn more than once,” he said. (CA)
