Father on trial for neglect

A FATHER on a neglect charge stemming from an incident in which the child died four years ago went on trial on Tuesday.

Dave Anthony Searles, 43, of Cemetery Lane, St Peter, is charged with the offence of having custody of Ethan Searles, a child under 16 years, he wilfully exposed the five-month old child in a manner likely to cause injury to his health.

Searles pleaded not guilty to the charge after the incident which allegedly occurred on December 5, 2012.

Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant heard from two witnesses in the District “A” Magistrates Court where Station Sergeant Irvin Kellman is prosecuting and Branford Taitt Jr is representing Searles. (TKS)
