More in Mercy Committee than we think

WHILE CHECKING some NATION newspapers before disposing of them, I discovered the names of the following members of the local Privy Council/Mercy Committee: Prime Minister Freundel Stuart; Opposition Leader Mia Mottley; Roman Catholic priest Father Clement Paul, who is or was the acting chaplain at Her Majesty Prisons Dodds; and attorney Nigel Jones, a part-time Deputy Clerk of Parliament (SUNDAY SUN, March 20, 2016).

Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite is also identified as a member of that all-powerful committee (DAILY NATION, Tuesday, March 22, 2016 ).

Who are the other members of this august committee? What does each member think about the death penalty? What does the selection and composition of this committee say about the governance of Barbados?

Our political leaders (“B” or “D”) clearly believe we are stupid or care little about what we think. What absolute contempt they have for us.

George Orwell’s Animal Farm and 1984 have relevance for us today.
