RESIDENTS OF Ellis Road, the district opposite Constitution Road in the City are living in fear of what they say is a mosquito hotspot and breeding ground for rats.
Patrick Hope, a father who has a wife with a five-month-old baby on the way, said his family is concerned about catching the Zika virus and is upset about the number of rats they find walking along the power lines and exiting the bushy area at night.
What is worse, he said, is that people add to their problem: “People come from all about and kill their animals and drop the carcasses there,” he said. “And when the same gutter wants cleaning you get a [horrible] stench.”
Another resident, a University of the West Indies student, said he was disappointed with the state of the area, especially knowing the neighbourhood was in view of Constitution Road, which is part of a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. (MR)
