ST JOHN’S – A brief shower forced an early lunch after the West Indies, following-on with a deficit of 323 runs, reached 76 for two in their second innings against India on the fourth day of the first cricket Test at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium here Sunday.
Marlon Samuels, with a flurry of fours, is unbeaten on 39 while opener Rajendra Chandrika has batted solidly for 22 not out off 84 balls.
Samuels’ first six scoring shots were all boundaries and he has already hit nine fours in his 51-ball innings.
He came to the crease when Darren Bravo was out in the day’s first over, edging Umesh Yadav to Ajinkya Rahane in the gully, without adding to his overnight score of 10.
The West Indies had been dismissed for a modest 243 in their first innings, replying to India’s massive total of 566 for eight declared.
