EDWIN YEARWOOD successfully defended his Sweet Soca title, and Lil Rick is the new Party Monarch.
Early Monday morning, the two kings, both performing songs with patriotic themes, were crowned at Bushy Park to put a wrap on this year’s MQI/98.1 Soca Royale Competition.
Yearwood earned 86 points with Home Sweet Home, convincing the judges there is no place better than “Barbados, Barbados, Barbados”.
Damian Marvay was second with 78 points, singing Know The Face and Peter Ram’s Good Morning third with 62.
Mistah Dale finished fourth, earning 58 points with Nuttin Sweeter.
Lil Rick got 100 points for his performance of I’z A Bajan. Hardly breaking a sweat on stage – no wuking up – Rick let the song speak for itself. His coronation was well-received.
The next three were much closer, but some distance from the champion.
MRBLOOD was second with 62 points for Get On Bad, four points more than defending champion Peter Ram, who performed The Tribe.
Mikey rounded out the top four with Live Fuh Dis. (SAT)
