HEALING HERBS: Fighting sexual dysfunction the healthy way

ON THURSDAY morning a war started in my head and was being fought because of two topics.

During the week I made a decision to draft an article about how to beat depression. I enjoy researching about depression because I was once depressed and I believe I can assist others to escape from depression.

However in a flash, I received a message about someone who was suffering from depression because of erectile dysfunction. The two topics which are depression and sexual dysfunction caused a major war in my head.

I asked “Which is more important to address – depression or erectile dysfunction? As bullets of ideas raced through my mind I jumped for cover and landed in a patch of silent doctor damiana. Victory was declared to erectile dysfunction as depression retreated.

I have recognised that many persons are depressed because of being challenged with erectile dysfunction. This is caused by many factors including stress, medication and surgery. You can google www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Erectile-dysfunction/Pages/Causes.aspx to read about the other causes. Erectile dysfunction continues to be a battle and they are many silent doctors that are available to treat this condition.

The list is exhaustive and includes lignum vitae, damiana, horny goat weed, love-in-a-mist, passion fruit, clove, fingrigo (finger grower), gully root and granny back bone.

However, today the spotlight falls on damiana which is reputed as a herbal remedy to heal depression and sexual dysfunction. On the website http://www.webnat.com Dr Kamhi has revealed that “damiana or ram goat dash along got that name from the local people because when the male goats eat the damiana, they are really jumping on everything and dashing along”.

Further on herbwisdom.com it is stated that “damiana leaves have been used as an aphrodisiac and to boost sexual potency by the native peoples of Mexico, including the Mayan Indians and is used for both male and female sexual stimulation”. I have been researching this plant for more than seven years and I have recognised that we in this part of the world are on to something when we believe in the power of this silent doctor.  I often wonder when persons drive pass damiana at the side of the street if they even recognise that it can heal many health challenges.

Finally, for those gentlemen who often say in Bajan terms “my clock was struck at six thirty for a long time”, I am informing  you that help was always on the horizon.  So, start researching all the natural remedies that you term as “wild plants or bush” that can ease your depression and sexual dysfunction. The battle must be won.
