JUST 24 HOURS after the Midweek Nation highlighted motorists’ complaints about massive potholes left in Pine North-South Road after major excavation for utility services, the surface has been repaved.
But while motorists can now drive without fear of damage to their vehicles, Minister of Transport and Works (MTW) Michael Lashley has made it clear he is not satisfied with the state of affairs.
He noted that because his ministry had responsibility for the roads it often found itself taking the blame for poor surfaces when in fact the various utility companies were at fault.
While these companies are required to inform MTW before starting excavations, too often they don’t and it negatively impacts their ability to supervise what occurs, he said.
Lashley warned that his ministry would write the various utility companies on the matter, and if necessary take steps to stop utility companies from excavating roads if they continued to disregard MTW’s role in the management of the island’s road network. (RRM)
