DEAR CHRISTINE: Husband putting ideas in my head

Share post:

Dear Christine,

I AM A WOMAN in my mid-fifties and my husband is the same age. He was always a ladies man.

I never used to worry about it before, as I keep myself as smart as possible. I always felt, however, that I would not do things like dyeing my hair, but grow old as gracefully as possible.

Recently, I noticed him looking at younger women and commenting very favourably. He swears he is not interested in them sexually, and thinks I should also be able to admire smart men.

My situation is, since I’ve been married I really do not see anyone but my husband. They are just men and that’s all. I don’t see how I could change now.

– PM

Dear PM,

And I see no reason why you should. I do not feel your husband should be telling you how you should feel about other men. It’s how you feel about them that matters.

I would not take him too seriously, but just look on his flirtatious ways with an indulgent eye as you have always done. You cannot be like him.

I hope if you are happy with your hair as it is and you won’t dye it.

Just because your husband is not prepared to grow old gracefully, there is no reason why you should not.
