ENTREPRENEUR ANDERSON CHERRY is making a major push for a stake in the multimillion-dollar composting market.

The businessman, who made his name under the Jose y Jose Limited brand, but who charged that since taking part in a strike by private waste haulers last year he had lost all his contracts, told the MIDWEEK NATION yesterday he was not going to roll over and play dead.

While everyone was keeping noise “not so long ago”, he said, he was quietly acquiring 20 acres of land on the brow of the hill between Mangrove Pond Landfill and the Ronald Mapp Highway from Massy for a massive composting project under the Project Recycle Limited brand.

He declined to say how much the land cost, but noted that each year Barbados imported more than $8 million in composted products and his aim was to garner a large chunk of that market, while saving the island foreign exchange and assisting with the processing of garbage.  (RRM)
