THE BARBADOS Sports Medicine Association (BSMA) has washed its hands clean of the situation.

President Dr Carl Ward absolved the BSMA of any guilt, having disclosed that it did indeed recommend a physiotherapist on Barbados’ Olympics team while revealing his body was not involved in choosing personnel for the IAAF World Under-20 Championships.

Ward sent out an official press release responding to comments made by chairman of the Barbados Physical Therapy Association, Dr Gerry Warner, who said both the BSMA and the Barbados Olympic Association owe the athletes an explanation for not sending a physio to Rio.

“We at the BSMA are able to give recommendations as to team composition, which included a physiotherapist, but we do not have the final say, neither do we have control over the number of medical official slots given to us by the International Olympic Committee for our current team,” said Ward.
