SIR FREDERICK SMITH was today eulogised as “a humble man who never forgot where he came from” during his funeral service at the James Street Methodist Church.
Paying tribute to her late father, Astrid Breedy said Sir Frederick was a “down to earth” man who never tired of extending a helping hand to those in need. She told mourners the Barbadian statesman loved his country, his God and his fellowman, and felt humbled to have served Barbados.
In his tribute, Sir Frederick’s son Craig conveyed his father’s parting wishes, one of which was for a happy 50th independence anniversary celebration. Another was to see a fund established to support the Frederick Smith Secondary School.
Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave and Lady Belgrave, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, Chief Justice Sir Marston Gibson, members of Cabinet, members of the diplomatic corps and president of the Caribbean Court of Justice, Sir Dennis Byron attended the official funeral service which was followed by a private interment.
