President Pedro Shepherd told the DAILY NATION that union members will be expressing their displeasure today and tomorrow in a peaceful protest on the football field next to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and not far from the offices of the Ministry of Education, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
The union is asking all teachers whose salaries were docked for attending union meetings on April 29 and May 4 to join them.
A letter from the union’s lawyer, Cecil McCarthy QC, has pointed out several inconsistencies and the fact that there is no precedent for the pay deduction. It also asked for the monies to be repaid; a meeting between the ministry and the BUT, and an audience with Prime Minister Freundel Stuart given that earlier representations have gone unheeded to date.
