THE PROPOSED APPOINTMENT of temporary public officers with three years or more of service is no new initiative by the Freundel Stuart administration.
Opposition Leader Mia Mottley said that as far back as October 2007, former Prime Minister David Thompson, then Opposition Leader had “promised to do the exact thing that the Minister of Finance (Chris Sinckler) spoke about yesterday (Tuesday).”
“It’s cognizance that the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) had already put in law that any public servant with three years or more as a temporary officer in a permanent post would have the right to be appointed,” Mottley told the House of Assembly yesterday.
In her reply to this year’s Financial Statement Budgetary Proposals the Opposition Leader said:” He (Sinckler) did not do anything special for them (temporary public officers).”
She also took issue with the Minister of Finance’s Budget proposals and referred to his Cabinet colleague and Minister of Agriculture, Dr David Estwick’s correspondence sent last year April to Prime Minister Freundel Stuart which called for a different economic strategy. (TS)
