A ST THOMAS farmer is lamenting the loss of fruits in his orchard to a flock of marauding macaws.

Kenneth Reid, a 71-year old fruit and vegetable farmer, whose property is situated at Green Hill, St Michael, is fuming in frustration because the offenders seem to have a taste for produce with a golden glow.

“The birds are breeding out of control . . . . They made off with up to 90 per cent of the fruits and they seem to have a liking for Golden apples, carambola and corn,” said Reid.

He added that they may put an end to the five finger also known as the “carambola fruit” which grows well in the Barbados environment. (TG)
