OBA feels it’s the association that’s really missing the mark.
Olympic medallist Obadele Thompson said the Athletics Association of Barbados (AAB) risked taking money out of the mouths of sprint hurdlers Shane Brathwaite and Greggmar Swift by not selecting them to go to Rio.
He said their Adidas contracts were now in jeopardy.
Thompson weighed in on the contentious argument in a wide-ranging interview with WEEKENDSPORT after they were left home despite making the IAAF qualifying standard for Rio.
“For the most part athletes make their money through endorsements or shoe companies and the only reason a big shoe company is interested in an athlete from a smaller country is that we here have a greater probability of making a championship team, which then allows their brand to be seen at the championship,” said Thompson.
