TOO OFTEN WE WAIT until someone dies to say how good that person was and to give all praises. Usually when a person dies that person automatically becomes good.
I do believe that such a person or people should be given their praises while they are alive. And to that end, I am going to give praises to the crew (drivers) from the Barbados Water Authority (BWA), led by Superintendent of Works Grantley Phillips, that are providing water for the residents in the Horse Hill, St Joseph area.
Yes we still have a water problem in the parish of St Joseph, but I can tell you that it is not as bad as before, because the BWA has installed a number of tanks in the area. We do not really have that problem at the rectory, which has its own tank and is refilled like other tanks in the area by the BWA from time to time.
I know that some members of the public will say that it is all right for me to talk because I am privileged to have a tank. It must not be looked at that way because St Joseph has had a water problem over the years. And as far as I am concerned, it is not going to get any better for a very long time, that is, if it does get better at all.
I think that every resident in the area should have a water tank. Some will ask where they are going to get the money from in these hard economic times. Well, my advice is that you cannot have everything that this world has to offer, but one has to decide what is important and water is very important and one must be prepared to make a sacrifice and give up some of the things that are in the second and third place to water. What about some of those “big mouth” drinks?
Crop Over is just over, and some of you would have spent more money on costumes, which in some cases cost more than a water tank. Everybody will say they are poor when it comes to basic necessities like water. But I am sure that people do spend thousands of dollars on entertainment – drinks, and especially food. You only have to name it.
