CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (QEH) of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Dr Dexter James is calling for greater integration between private and public health care.
He said, for example, there were about 100 registered dentists in Barbados and the few that worked in public health sometimes struggled to secure supplies.
He suggested that Government come up with a policy to contract private dental practitioners to do basic oral hygiene services such as extractions and fill-ins.
“Do we continue to have our polyclinics address both primary medical care and the public health issues, or do we not have enough private care practitioners that those levels of services could be outsourced to those practitioners and allow the public health system to focus on the public health issues,” he questioned.
