A “DISMISSAL” of an employee could result in strike action being taken at the United Commercial Autoworks Limited (UCAL).
Employees actually stopped work for a brief period after yesterday’s firing of Richard Newton, a shift foreman at UCAL.
However, UCAL’s union representative John Jones told the SATURDAY SUN that if Newton was not given back his job by yesterday evening, workers would down tools for a longer period in support of their colleague.
Newton, who had been employed at UCAL for 19 years, said he was fired after returning to work from vacation for allegedly stealing money.
And while he has disputed this allegation, Newton said he was sent packing without even being given a hearing. (RB)
