THE PICTURESQUE HILLS of St Joseph not only offer a beautiful scenery on the eastern side of the island, they also boast of a cadre of people who give willingly for the love of their communities.

And to honour these community stalwarts, the 2016 St Joseph Parish Independence Committee held an appreciation ceremony on Sunday evening at Naniki Restaurant in Surinam.

Main speaker Frederick Bailey reminded those present that “to whom much is given, much is expected because when we do good, good will come to us in return”.

“Life is all about service to others, and this afternoon we come together to pay tribute to some of the incredible citizens of this parish who have made an indelible contribution to the development of our communities. Service, contrary to what some people believe, is not servitude or slavery or drudgery,” he said. (RA)
