DON’T GIVE up on the athletes. So says vice-president of the Athletic Association of Barbados (AAB), Noel Lynch, in relation to the team’s modest performance at the 31st Olympiad in Rio.
“Give them a chance. The Olympics is a huge step. It was just unfortunate. There has been a lot of criticism and some of it has been too hard. We should not be giving up on people many of whom were having their first exposure to the Olympics,” said Lynch, who had predicted two medals and at least four finalists.
Not a single member of the team got past the first round and the only personal best came from Akela Jones in the javelin portion of the heptathlon.
