IF GENERAL SECRETARY of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) Toni Moore gets her way, there will be no more “free rides” for non-unionised workers.
That’s because the island’s largest trade union is pushing for legislation to be implemented which would see non-unionised workers having to pull their pockets in exchange for receiving the same benefits as their unionised colleagues.
Moore revealed her intention to pursue the matter at the BWU’s upcoming 75th annual delegates conference this weekend, during a press conference at the union’s Solidarity House headquarters yesterday morning.
She said non-members had been able to capitalise on gains that were often won on the sacrifice of fee-paying members.
Moore said the time had come for the “free rides” to end.
