THE ROAD to Tokyo, Japan, in 2020 will be another challenging journey for tiny Barbados but one of the country’s most revered sports administrators believes there are enough bright lights to make it passable.
While contending that competing against the big nations at major meets like the Olympic Games will always be a challenge for small countries, Barbados Olympic Association president Steve Stoute believes the podium isn’t too tall a step to climb.
“Big countries do have at their disposal all kinds of sophisticated and expensive techniques that we will never be able to emulate, but I think we have the talent as a small country to hold our own in major competitions, especially in track and field and swimming,” Stoute told SATURDAY SPORT.
