THE BARBADOS’ men’s hockey team need to raise $90 000 if they are to compete in the FIH World Hockey League in Salamanca, Mexico, at monthend.

And though the odds are against them accumulating those funds, coach Dominic Hill is hopeful that they will reach their target.

Hill told MIDWEEK SPORT yesterday they were carrying out various fund-raising initiatives to gather the funds required.

“That $90 000 includes airfare, accommodation and all the other expenses we have. We have been trying fund-raising which has been very difficult, but it’s coming along.

“It has been difficult to fund raise and train at the same time. We were given three months to work with the new [Barbados Hockey Federation] president. He has been very helpful and has given us the autonomy to go out there and see what we can do to raise the funds ourselves,” he said. (RG)
