PROMINENT SPORTSPERSONS will be honoured with the launch of the Barbados Sportsperson’s Trust Fund.
This was revealed by Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley during a press conference yesterday at his Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall office to discuss a black and white event to honour 20 athletes and one international sporting icon.
“A key highlight of the night will be the launch of the Barbados Sportsperson’s Trust Fund. The purpose of that fund will be varied, but in particular we are very focused on using the proceeds of that fund to provide assistance to sportspersons who would have retired,” he said.
The minister noted that this issue has been very topical for many years, and had arisen because several distinguished sporting figures had retired from active participation in sports, but nothing had been done to provide for them in retirement. (RA)
