SEVERAL PARTS OF Barbados were transformed into flood zones as heavy rains pounded the island today.

The steady rains started around mid-morning and traffic slowed to a crawl as drivers navigated through the rising waters.

People in districts surrounding Holetown, St James and other areas complained that they could not get out of their homes because of the water that accumulated in front of their doorsteps and surrounded the houses.

At noon the Barbados Meteorological Services issued a flood warning for western and northwestern sections of Barbados.

“The combination of light winds, strong daytime heating and an abundance of moisture is generating cloudy skies, some moderate to heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms over the northern half of the island.

These conditions are expected to persist throughout the afternoon,” the bulletin said.
