ONCE AGAIN THOUSANDS are expected to fill the streets of Warrens supporting local cancer victims in their fight against the chronic illness.

Even though registration for the annual Walk for the Cure has not started, title sponsor CIBC FirstCaribbean today boasted of receiving donations surpassing $160 000 to help women  who need mammograms and other medical examinations.

During a Press conference at the Bougainvillea Beach Resort to launch the walk, Dr Shirley Hanoman-Jhagroo of the Barbados Cancer Society’s Breast Screening Programme said she found younger women were coming in for breast exams.

More than 15 000 people participated in the walk last year and Barbados walk manager Krystle Maynard said even larger numbers are expected this year.

Those interested in participating in the ten kilometre journey are expected to assemble in front of First Caribbean’s Warrens, St Michael head office on October 2. (MR)
