AFTER ANOTHER tough night for teens competing in the 40th season of the Richard Stoute Teen Talent Contest, the fourth preliminary ended with a victory for young Neesha Welch.

Sunday’s showdown at the Divi Southwinds Resort, St Lawrence, was a mini repeat of last year’s junior final, but this time around Welch was triumphant over rivals Daesha Brathwaite and Kayla Alleyne, who placed second and third, respectively.

Welch was always expected to be a front-runner and from early she held true to form, trailing Brathwaite by a mere point after the first half. Her first performance of the 1980’s classic Out Here On My Own by Irene Cara though very good was not void of challenges.

What started out as a beautiful rendition, as the small audience appeared in awe of her vocal prowess, took a sour turn when the sound system experienced technical difficulties. As a result, Welch was forced to leave the stage. However a few minutes later the 12-year-old returned from the slight setback unperturbed and more determined. (SDB Media)
