BARBADOS’ LATEST centenarian was not able to host Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave in his home at Dash Valley, St George, because of its condition.

But Sir Elliott’ visit was still pleasurable for birthday boy Clement Whitstanley Holdip yesterday at the home of his daughter Lenora Brooks next door.

Brooks said she tried over the years to get her father’s house repaired and had made several attempts to reach the Ministry of Social Care, but these proved futile.  She took members of the media on a tour of the one-bedroom wooden structure, and pointed out the numerous holes in the roof and said there were no inside water facilities.

“I would be happy to see it get fixed because I had to carry him over at me. If this was done he would’ve been in his house but it’s not suitable,” she said. (TG)
