Call to pull strip clubs into tax net

THE OWNER of an adult entertainment club says Government is losing out on revenue because it does not regulate what has become a multimillion-dollar business.

“It is a massive industry,” Charles “Charlie Spice” Lewis told the SUNDAY SUN.

“Two thousand to 3 000 girls are working in Barbados at any point in time and if they are all generating US$300 and $500 per day, you are looking at in excess of $80 million a year that is being generated and that can be taxed by the Government. It is already de facto legalised because they turn a blind eye anyway,” he said.

Lewis, the owner of Charlie Spice Experience, a private club, said the industry should be regulated with the same privileges as other businesses, such as access to work permits for foreign workers.
