THANK YOU FOR COMING, but go and come back when we actually have running water from the Barbados Water Authority (BWA).
That was the blunt message from frustrated residents of St Joseph communities who attended the Fair Trading Commission’s (FTC) town hall meeting yesterday at Grantley Adams Memorial Secondary School. It was to discuss service standards for the state-owned public utility company and the vexing issue of compensation for customers affected by the BWA’s failure to supply the commodity.
However, the more than 50 residents who turned up for the meeting said they had no water so they did not want to hear about standards, but would have preferred to have solutions from BWA officials.
Director of utility regulations for the FTC, Dr Marsha Atherley-Ikechi, said the BWA was previously not regulated by the quasi-judicial body but was now under its guidance. She said this meant that several matters had to be addressed since the legislation which governed the BWA differed from that which guided the FTC. (LK)
