THE PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL is one step closer to becoming a state-of-the-art facility.

The island’s lone mental-health hospital officially opened its new kitchen yesterday morning, with Minister of Health John Boyce promising that the century old buildings would continue to be upgraded until the Black Rock, St Michael hospital attained international standard.

Having begun in March of 2013, the kitchen was completed at a cost of $6.5 million and will be fully operational within the next two weeks.

Speaking to the SATURDAY SUN after a tour of the ultra-modern facility, Boyce said more upgrades were on the way for the hospital which was constructed in 1891. (RB)
