CHAMPIONS Christ Church East Central, powered by a second half hat trick from captain Jabarry “Papi” Chandler, have started their title defence in grand style.

They blanked St Michael North West 5-0 in the opening match of this year’s David Thompson Memorial Constituency Councils’ Football Classic at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex on Sunday night.

Chandler scored in the 52nd, 75th and 83rd minutes after his brother Jamal Chandler had opened the scoring in the 24th minute.

The two-time champions, with Olympic Games and US Open tennis qualifier Darian King in their line-up also benefitted from an own goal by their opponents in the 78th minute.

In the feature match, St Michael South Central came from a goal down to beat St John 3-1.

After caption Romario Harewood converted a penalty for St John to take the lead in the 22nd minute, St Michael South Central stormed back with three classy goals from Walton Burrowes (55th), Corey “Santa” Barrow (68th) and Elsid Miggins (89th). (EZS)
