THE JAHBULANI BALLROOM DANCE CLUB is in the final stages of preparation for its competition It’s Strictly Ballroom & Ten Dance Championship.

This competition, which is in its third year, was created to fill the void left when other competitions folded under the severe pressure of not having sponsorship.

Barbados Ballroom & Latin dancers need competition in order to prepare themselves for international competitions. They participate every November in Blackpool, England and at World Championships in Paris in December.

“The management of Jahbulani decided even though things are really tough and to get sponsorship isvery difficult, we will try to continue with the competition this year using what little funds we have for the sake of the dancers because without it our dancers will be at a huge disadvantage when they travel due to the lack of competitive events done locally,” a release from the club said.

This year’s competition will see categories contested in juveniles to adults and the over-40 masters. There will also be an addition to the ten dance segment where the juveniles will now have to compete in all five ballroom and five Latin dances.

Tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. the competition gets started promptly and patrons and visitors alike will get a chance to see Barbados’ best ballroom dancers in action as they compete for the coveted titles in their categories as well as the Ten Dance Championship. (PR)
