GPS tracking transport vehicles

THE QUEST to rid Barbados of undisciplined route taxi, minibus and Transport Board drivers will include the use of technology.

The Ministry of Transport and Works is now three months into an experiment, using state of the art GPS (global positioning satellite) monitors which have been placed in eight vehicles which currently ply their trade on two specific routes.

The four Transport Board buses, three minibuses and a route taxi are part of the ministry’s Transport Authority Service Integration (TASI) pilot project, and the GPS monitors have been in place since the end of June. 

The buses ply the Bridgetown routes to Sturges, St Thomas and Edey Village, Christ Church. (BA)
