McClean knocks international community

INTERNATIONAL ACTIONS are threatening the economic stability of Barbados and other developing countries in and out of the Caribbean.

And the actions, complained Senator Maxine McClean, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, ranged far and wide and could “undermine our capacity to achieve full implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals” as established by the international community in general and the United Nations in particular.

In an address to the UN General Assembly on Saturday, she listed three international moves that were adversely affecting Barbados, its neighbours in the Caribbean and Latin America, as well as small island developing states elsewhere.

At the top of McClean’s list was the “unilateral and unidimensional policies of international development agencies which penalise us for progress in human development, while ignoring our obvious vulnerabilities”. (TB)
