Still swinging

CARIBBEAN BOXING administrators are still fighting to lift the sport off the canvas.

And at least 18 countries and 160 of the region’s best pugilists will gather at the Barbados Beach Club for the second edition of the revamped Caribbean Development Boxing Championships in December.

Secretary of the Barbados Boxing Association (BBA), Kathy Harper-Hall, made the announcement during the tournament’s official press launch yesterday as the region tries to resurrect the sport by bringing back the old Caribbean Boxing Championships.

“In 2008 the international body mandated that we could no longer have the Caribbean Boxing Association because they would only be recognising one agency in the Americas and that was the American Agency, so we had to close shop,” explained Harper-Hall. (JM)
