TEMPERS FLARED, voices were raised and a team from the Town and Country Planning Department walked out after a tense verbal confrontation.

The meeting, billed as a public consultation on the proposed Sandy Lane Beach Regeneration and Marine Conservation project, ended on a controversial note following the flare-up over a breakdown in communication.

One person present accused the two planning officials of disrespect for the walkout that occurred towards the end of the almost two-hour meeting, which was generally without rancour, though tense at times, when concerned surfers and homeowners spoke out about the project.

Early in the rescheduled meeting held Friday night at the Colony Club, St James, one of the six surfers present queried the absence of representatives of the Coastal Zone Management Unit and Town Planning. (WILLCOMM)
