MINISTRY OFFICIALS have allowed one month to harvest sea eggs, but divers say that within two weeks, most of the delicacy will be gone.
From Consett Bay and Martin’s Bay, St John, to Silver Sands in Christ Church, divers were busy yesterday, breaking the shells of their catches and preparing the golden rows that fetch on average $60 per pound. At one site a woman came to purchase nine pounds that cost about $540.Â
Divers told the SUNDAY SUN there was no activity at the popular Skeete’s Bay, St Philip, due to rough sea conditions and most boats were still hauled up as a result of the slight brush with Tropical Storm Matthew.
The one-month sea egg season opened yesterday, for the second year following an almost ten-year ban. (LK)
