Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave and Lady Belgrave were the guests of honour when Ambassador of The People’s Republic of China Wang Ke hosted a reception in honour of her country’s 67th anniversary at Accra Beach Hotel last week.

Other guests included Chinese citizens in Barbados, diplomats, politicians and representatives from the Confucius Institute at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus.

The gathering reflected the strong ties between China and Barbados and spoke to the “reform and opening-up policy” over the last 38 years, of which Ambassador Wang Ke made mention in her remarks.

There were toasts to the occasion and a large cake was cut, before guests got down to sampling the fare served up in the Fig Tree Restaurant at Accra Beach Hotel, while the Cadet Band serenaded. (GC)
