Edwards in trial match

KIRK EDWARDS is now back in the Barbados mix-up. The former Barbados captain and West Indies’ top-order batsman has been selected to play in the first Barbados Pride three-day cricket trial match starting at 3Ws Oval, today from 10 a.m.

Edwards represented Jamaica in the last regional first-class season. Fast bowler Javon Searles, who has been playing mostly Twenty20 cricket for the Trinidad and Tobago-based franchise, is also in the brew.

Barbados Under-19 captain Nicholas Kirton, a left-handed middle order batsman, who now plays for the Sagicor UWI side, stylish wicket-keeper/batsman Tevyn Walcott of the Barbados Defence Force’s Sports Programme and CounterPoint Wanderers’ fast bowler Shakeem Clarke, have been selected for the first time.

Also included are the two foreign players, left-arm seamer Preston McSween and leg-spinner Kissoondath Magram.

The match is in preparation for the regional Professional Cricket League first-class Championship, which starts November 11.
