STUDENTS of Blackman and Gollop Primary School closed books and celebrated their fifth anniversary yesterday.

During a morning ceremony at the Staple Grove, Christ Church school, Minister of Education Ronald Jones encouraged parents and guardians to build a solid foundation on spiritual values for their charges.

“That foundation has helped me also in becoming the person that I am . . . . The church should be used to mould the children. I want to see obedient, disciplined children who respond to advice. Those are important attributes of learning,” he said.

A time capsule with a school uniform, and the school’s mantra, was buried. Reverend Carlos Brathwaite, of the nearby Dunamis Wesleyan Holiness Church, blessed the area and said the next time the memorabilia would be seen was in 25 years.

White doves and balloons were also released by students. (MR)
