Private sector ‘at fault too’ for index ranking

THE PRIVATE SECTOR has to take some of the responsibility for Barbados’ standing as a business-friendly destination, two business executives indicated yesterday.

Barbados International Business Association’s (BIBA) executive director Henderson Holmes and president Gregory McConnie added their voice to the debate about the country’s ranking in a global ease of business index at the launch of International Business Week at the offices of Invest Barbados.

“When we talk about the ease of business in Barbados, we generally think that this is just a matter relating to the public service, but that is not necessarily true. We have work to do in the private sector too,” Holmes said.

“Businesses people interact with the services offered in the private sector and some of those services are really not up to the standards that you would expect in Barbados.” (AD)
