GOD’S WORD is powerful and is a protective shield. His people do not have to live in fear because they have His Word which works through them.
That’s the message Sister Athanette Holder shared with those who attended the Savour The Flavour over-50 age group-led service at Restoration Ministries, Brittons Hill, St Michael last Friday night.
It was a night when women 50 years and over took to the stage and in true form, through music and testimonies, ministered to those in attendance.
Holder preached on the topic The Armour Of God, sharing mainly from Ephesians 6:10-17.
She encouraged the congregation to walk in light, wisdom and in obedience, while completely clothed with the armour of God.
“Paul was asking the church at Ephesus to be strong in the Lord and not just to have a head knowledge, but to let God’s Word rule in their hearts,” Holder said. “The enemy studies us and comes when we are at our weakest, but we must be strong in the Lord, know the Word of God and stand on God’s promises.”
She stressed the need to have the garment of truth as a foundation, and advised her listeners to have their loins girded about with truth. They were also to “wear” the breastplate of righteousness, having their feet shed with the preparation of the gospel of peace, holding up the shield of faith, helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which was the Word of God.
She reasoned that each piece of the armour was some aspect of the God’s Word.
“We must walk in peace and love, even though some people can be hard to love. Jesus is love and will not refuse anybody who comes to Him, but if we are going to conform to Christ, we must do as He does, and be kind to one another.”
She said it was important to confess the Word of God each day and to keep it in one’s eyes, ears, mouth and heart.
Holder also said that since faith came by hearing the Word of God, believers must be well versed in the Scriptures.
She further stressed the need to wear the helmet of salvation since the enemy targeted the mind.
“We need the helmet of salvation which covers our minds because the enemy aims at our mind. That’s where the battle is. Thoughts will come to confuse us, but we have to have our minds renewed by the Word of God. We must also have a desire to see people healed and saved.”
She also said that both personal and corporate prayer and praise were necessary to live a successful Christian life.
